A group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), operating under the banner of APC Vanguard for Tinubu Re-Election in Ondo State, has raised serious allegations against Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, accusing him of actions capable of destabilising the party and jeopardising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election prospects in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a petition dated May 20, 2026, and addressed to the National Chairman of the APC, the group alleged that the governor’s conduct during the recent ward congresses and ongoing party primaries had deepened internal division, weakened party cohesion, and created widespread dissatisfaction among party faithful.

The petition, signed by Ajanaku Oluwaduyilemi Joshua, alleged that the February 17 ward congress in Ondo State was disrupted by suspected political thugs allegedly acting on instructions to seize control of the party structure.
According to the group, the violence which later spread to Akure and Idanre, reportedly leading to the death of two party members, brought back memories of the notorious “Wetie” political crisis associated with violence and unrest in the old Western Region during the 1960s.

The group further accused the governor of supervising primaries allegedly characterised by intimidation, manipulation, imposition of candidates, and abuse of executive influence.
It claimed that government officials involved in the exercise were allegedly directed to ensure victory for candidates loyal to the governor irrespective of the actual wishes of party members.

The petition warned that the growing resentment within the APC in Ondo State could significantly affect voter mobilisation and weaken the party’s electoral strength during the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.

The group also alleged that the governor had alienated party elders and stakeholders while failing to deliver impactful governance capable of strengthening public confidence in the APC administration.

Calling for urgent intervention, the group urged the APC National Executive Committee to immediately investigate the conduct of the primaries and take decisive steps to prevent what it described as a looming political crisis within the party in Ondo State.

It maintained that failure to address the situation could result in voter apathy, internal rebellion, and electoral setbacks for the APC in future elections.
