Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has commended Gov Abdullahi Sule for releasing first tranche of funds for the upgrade of Nasarawa Broadcasting Service (NBS) for effective service delivery.
The Chairman, House Committee on Information, Hon Jonah Ali Dizaho, gave the commendation when the managements of the State Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism and NBS appeared separately before the committee on their 2026 budget performance today in Lafia.
Hon Dizaho ( PDP- Karu/ Gitata) assured that the committee would do everything humanly possible to ensure upgrade of NBS to enable its compete favourably with other broadcasting stations in the country.
” We are grateful to His Excellency , Engr. Abdullahi Sule for releasing first tranche of funds for the upgrade of NBS for effective dissemination of information on government policies and programmes and other information in the state,” he said.
He said that the oversight function was to assess the budget performance of the ministry and NBS with the view of addressing any challenge, if discovered.
” We are here to assess the budget performance of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism and NBS for the first Quarter of 2026.
” This is not a witch hunt exercise as the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has empowered us to oversight the activities of MDAs,” he said.
Hon Dizaho urged the management of the ministry and NBS to sincerely tell the House their achievements in 2026 and challenges for the intervention of the committee.
He called on the State government to release City Hall from the State Ministry of Youth and Sports to the State Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism for effective service delivery since the Ministry of Information said that the City hall belongs to the cultural department of the ministry.
The Committee Chairman urged the managements of the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism and NBS to do more in order to generate more revenue to the coffer of the state government.
He assured them of the committee continue support to address their challenges.
Responding, Hon Ibrahim Tanko, Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism and Mrs Patricia Akawu, the General Manager, NBS appreciated the support the ministry and NBS are enjoying from the committee and called for its sustenance.
They also appreciated Gov. Abdullahi Sule for releasing first tranche of funds for the upgrade of NBS.
They also assured of their continued readiness to be up and doing in ensuring effective dissemination of information on state government policies and programmes.
The Commissioner, however, appealed to the committee to intervene to release City Hall from the State Ministry of Youth and Sports to Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism for promotion of cultural and other activities.
The General Manager of NBS, however, appealed for an increase in the overhead budget to cover rising diesel and electricity costs.
