Abuja, March 10, 2026 (NAN) Pro-People Security and Development Think Tank (PPSDTT), a civil society group, has commended the Nigerian military for its professionalism, respect for human rights, and operational successes in the fight against terrorism.

The convener of the group, Micheal Adamu, gave the commendation during a Peace and Development Rally held on Tuesday in Masaka, Nasarawa State.

Adamu said the group gathered community leaders, civil society actors and residents to promote security, social cohesion and community-driven development.

He stressed the need for security operations to strike a balance between confronting violent threats and safeguarding civilian lives.

Adamu particularly praised the Armed Forces for neutralising terrorist leaders and rescuing kidnapped victims in various parts of the country, citing a recent operation in the Kubwa–Bwari axis that led to the successful rescue of several abducted persons.

He also welcomed the proposed increase in soldiers’ salaries, noting that the development would boost troop morale and further enhance operational effectiveness.

According to him, improvements in human rights training and accountability mechanisms within the military have contributed to a more disciplined operational environment.

Adamu emphasised that human security is closely linked with development, calling for increased investment in programmes addressing poverty, unemployment and social exclusion, which he said are often exploited by violent groups.

Participants at the rally echoed the call for stronger community engagement and collaboration with security agencies as key strategies for preventing violence and promoting national unity.

The group also commended the leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, noting that reforms under his leadership have strengthened operational discipline and improved public confidence in military operations.

Adamu stressed that the Armed Forces’ commitment to protecting civilians and upholding human rights reflects the understanding that national security and respect for fundamental freedoms are mutually reinforcing.

Some of the participants at the event said the initiatives such as the Masaka Peace and Development Rally highlighted the growing recognition of collective action in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

They expressed optimism that continued collaboration between civil society groups and the military would enhance the country’s ability to confront security threats while upholding democratic values. (NAN)
