Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has commended the State Vocational and Relevant Technology Board for training youths and other people of the state in different vocational and skills acquisition programmes.
This, the House said that the board training of the youths has reduced the rate of unemployment, restiveness and tackle poverty in the state
Mr Danladi Jatau, Chairman of the House Committee on Education made the pledged when the management of the State Vocational and Relevant Technology Board appeared before the committee on its 2023 budget performance on Friday in Lafia.
The committee pledged its support to enable them to succeed.
” We are happy with the performance of the state Vocational and Relevant Technology Board.
” The management are doing well in training our youths in different skills and other aspects.
” We will support, collaborate and partner effectively with you to train our youths in different vocational and skills acquisition programmes,” he said
Jatau said that the committee invited them to assess their 2023 budget performance.
” What we are doing is our normal rituals of oversighting the activities of MDAs,” he said.
Jatau lauded Gov. Abdullahi Sule for prioritizing the development of the the board.
Earlier, Dr Idris Umar Idris,. the General Manager, Nasarawa State Vocational and Relevant Technology Board assured the committee of his continous readiness to key into good polices that would keep the youth off the street via skills training.
He said the board was established in order to train the youths and other people in different skills acquisition programmes to be self reliance.
He told the committee that the board has trained the youths and other people in different skills over the years.
The General Manager said that the board has produced incubator that can hatch hundreds of eggs per day.
He appealed for more funding and absorption of its casual staff, a request the chairman of the committee pledged support to address.
Also appeared before the committee was the management of the Nasarawa State University, Keffi, led by Dr Abdullahi Modibbo, the Acting Vice Chancellor of the university, where he appreciated the House for supporting the university to succeed.
Modibbo said that the university is being up and doing in maintaining standard of education in the Institution.
He, however enumerated the challenges facing the Institution to include funding, under staffing, payment of gratuities and pension among others,
The chairman of the committee urged the university to continue to maintain academic standard and pledged to address their challenges.(NAN)
