The Director-General of National Orientation Agency, Mr Lanre Issa-Onilu, has called for peaceful coexistence among residents of Akwanga, Nasarawa-Eggon and Wamba Local Government Areas ( LGAs) of Nasarawa State.
Issa-Onilu, represented by the Director, Special Duties and State Operations in NOA, Mr David Akoji. made the call at a sensitisation session on peace and unity among the people of Nasarawa North Federal Constituency on Tuesday in Akwanga.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nasarawa North Federal Constituency is made up of Akwanga, Nassarawa-Eggon and Wamba LGAs of the state.
The event was organisation by NOA in collaboration with the Representative of the Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives Rep. Jeremiah Umaru.
According to Issa-Onilu, Nigeria is facing insecurity, which further complicated by disunity and various forms of conflicts.
“We observed that non- kenetics approach to addressing insecurity remains one of the important ways in tackling the menace of insecurity.
“Nigeria is a very strategic country in the attainment of global peace and security.
“It is worthy to note that peace cannot be achieve without the contribution of critical stakeholders that are gathered here today.
“Violence should never be used to fight violence. There is need to increase awareness to have peace and the benefits of peaceful coexistence.
“This is what we want for the people in Akwanga, Nassarawa-Eggon, Wamba LGAs, the state and the country in general. This event for peace is what we need to lead us into development.
“Youths should also be encouraged to involve in community development. Community event like this sensitisation today can help promote sense of together,” Issa-Onilu said.
In his remarks, Umaru commended traditional rulers, security agencies and Local Council Chairmen for their efforts to bring about peace in Nasarawa North Zone of the state.
“And as a member representing this Constituency I feel it is important to also put my effort in peace building, and that is why we organised the event to foster peace and unity among our people.
“And to also enlightened them about security, because, security is everybody’s business. Everything about security starts with you and me.
“National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) are also doing great in area of emergency management in the state.
“We are here to sensitise ourselves, for the relevant agencies to sensitise us on security and other emergency issues. We need to work together to achieve the Nasarawa North of our dreams,”Umaru said.
NAN reports that the events brought together political leaders, traditional rulers, security personnel, NEMA officials, community based organisations, faith base organisations, party chieftains, youth groups, women groups, lawmakers among others. (NAN)
