The Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack says the Federal Government is committed to tackling infrastructural challenges in the nation’s education sector.
Walson-Jack disclosed this during a Keynote speech at the 43th Plenary of the Unity Schools Old Students’ Association in Abuja on Saturday.
She said the government is also committed to revamping the educational sector by putting in place necessary modalities for teachers training programmes to facilitate improvement in quality.
She called on the group to redouble efforts in uniting the country through the association by producing leadership and selfless service to the nation and their alma mater.
”The federal government is taking the bull by the horn to bring the unity schools back to what they use to be.
”So the government is looking at the infrastructure, curriculum, teachers training, they are looking at so many things that will actually revamp the unity colleges and we must commend the federal government for this,” she said.
On his part, the President General of USOAS, Mr Michael Magaji, outlined some of the achievement of the association within its one year in office.
Magaji promised the association’s readiness to collaborate with education stakeholders to move unity schools to an enviable height.
”We will continue to engage with all stakeholders for the growth and improvement of quality education in this country.
”I am pleased to report that we were able to hold our retreat, deliver our sports carnival in Abuja as well as host the plenary session in Port Harcourt.
”Last September, Usosans resident in the United Kingdom also organised and hosted Usosans to the first ever plenary outside Nigeria.
”We are doing this to foster cooperation in such a way that collectively we can contribute our quota in helping government to provide quality education in our schools,” he said.
