The National Commission for Refugees distributed food packs to 300 Internally Displaced Persons households in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau on Thursday.

This was done in collaboration with the Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons Initiative (NCFRMI) and the Nigerian Army in its Zero Hunger Programme.

Mr Musa Kangiwa, Deputy Director of IDPs Department at the Commission commiserated with families of victims of attacks that occurred on Tuesday night at Penu community in the area.

Kangiwa represented Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, Federal Commissioner of NCFRMI at the ceremony.

Kangiwa prayed to God to avert future attacks on the community and for Him to grant the families of victims the fortitude to bear the loss.

“We are here to present the Zero Hunger food packs to “Persons of Concern’’ as part of our Sustainable Development Goals to get rid of hunger.

“We are here today to alleviate some of the sufferings of our `Persons of Concern through this small food care packs,’’ Kangiwa said.

Lt. Janet Obolo who represented the Chief of Army staff, Gen. Farouk Yahaya at the ceremony commended the effort.

“From the way I see them in Wase Local Government, they really need it. I believe it will go a long way to alleviate hunger in them. I am sure they will value it and appreciate the Commission and the Federal Government.

“We shall continue to partner with NCFRMI and other relevant stakeholders to assist and facilitate interventions for `Persons of Concern,’’ Obolo said.

Alhaji Musa Nyalun, who represented Rep. Ahmed Idris (Wase Federal Constituency), also commended NCFRMI and the Nigerian Army for the Zero Hunger Food Care Packs.

Nyalun, Special Assistant to Idris, added that his principal also sent 100 wheelchairs for distribution to physically-challenged people in the community.

Similarly, Chairman of Wase Local Government Council, Dr Ado Buba expressed delight at the gesture by the NCFRMI and Idris.

One of the beneficiaries, Hajiya Hauwa Abubakar told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the food care packs would go a long way to feed her family.

She appreciated the NCFRMI and the Nigerian Army for the gesture and appealed to them to extend the gesture to other traumatised people across the country.

The Food Care Packs contain Garri, milk, rice, beans, sugar, salt, and sachet tomatoes among other food items. (NAN)
