The Police Command in Nasarawa State has banned all forms of protest in the state with immediate effect.
This is confined in a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Ramhan Nansel on Sunday in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State.
According.to Nansel, the ban was unconnected to the just conclude governorship and state house of assembly election, ” it is based on security report.
“The general public should know that all forms of protests in the state have been banned.
The main reason for the bam is to prevent the breakdown of law and order,” Nansel said.
He explained that based on intelligence and security reports made available to the police, it could not allow any form of protest.
According to him, this is done in order to sustain the existing peace in the state.
“Consequently, parents and guardians are hereby admonished to caution and ensure that their children and wards do not violate the order.
“This is because, anyone visitors would be caught prosecuted accordingly,” Nansel submitted.
News Authority reports that after the allegation of stolen mandate made by the PDP in the just concluded governorship election in the state, the party declared a seven days protest from Thursday, March 23.
Some women have embarked on protests at INEC offices across the state which was expected to last for the seven days.
The women said that INEC rigged the March 18 governorship election in favour of the incumbent governor, Abdullahi Sule of the APC as against PDP candidate, Dr David Emmanuel Umbjgadu who is the popular wish of the people.
Various reports indicated that while the PDP governorship candidate, Dr David Emmanuel Umbugadu clearly won the election in nine local governments in the state, the incumbent, AA Sule of APC narrowly won about four local government areas.
It was also alleged that the votes from Gayam and Ciroma wards in Lafia were then inflated and used to announced AA Sule of APC as the winner of the election, even when some party’s agents reported allegation of manipulation of electoral results in those wards.
Similarly, some residents in Lafia who pleaded anonymity alleged that the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the Vice President-elect, Mr Kassim Shettima and a former Chief of Army Staff were in Lafia on March 18 and 19 to perfect the rigging using some security officers and the state Returning Officer, Professor Ishaya Tanko, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, Plateau State.
After the announcement of AA Sule of the APC as governor-elect by Professor Ishaya Tanko, a PDP Chieftain in the state, Mr Labaran Maku and others condemned INEC and the government for conniving and subverting the will of the people, stressing that the PDP governorship candidate, Mr David Emmanuel Umbugadu clearly won the March 18 governorship election in the state.
