A former Governor of Oyo State OtunbaChristopher Adebayo Alao-Akala has passed on.
Sources close to the Alao-Akala familyconfirmed the death of the former Oyo State governor.
Alao-Akala was aged 71 years old.
He served as the Deputy Governor of OyoState from May 2003 to January 2006.Following the impeachment ofthen-incumbent Governor (Rashidi Ladoja), he was then sworn into office in January 2006 and served for 11 months.
In December 2006, the impeachment was overturned by the Supreme Court, and Rashidi Ladoja was reinstated.
Alao-Akala contested and won thegubernatorial election in 2007 as thecandidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and became the Executive Governor of the state, serving a full term tillI May 2011.
