“… insufficient funds made government to prioritize expenditure, says AG…”
Nasarawa State House of Assembly has urged the State Accountant General Dr. Musa Ahmed Muhammed to look inward and improve in release of funds to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for project executions and other activities to enhance development.
Hon. Hudu A Hudu, the Chairman House Committee on Finance and Appropriation made the call when the  management of the office of the state Accountant General and Ministry of Finance appeared before the committee on their 2024 budget performance today in Lafia.
Hudu said that the committee invited them in order to assess their 2024 budget performance.
” We will continue to support and synergize with you to succeed as the state cannot fund projects without finances,” he said.
The committee chairman commended Gov Abdullahi Sule for the release of funds to MDAs and urged him to do more in that direction.
He said the House is happy with the performance of the State Accountant General Dr. Musa Ahmed Muhammed so far and urged him to bring more of his experience to table for the betterment of the State.
Earlier, Dr. Musa Ahmed Mohammed, the Accountant General of the State and Two Term former Speaker of the State Assembly appreciated the committee members for giving their maximum support to his office to succeed.
The AG attributed the non release of some funds to insufficient money at government coffer, hence the need to prioritize expenditure.
He said that the state government is releasing funds to MDAs based on priority of projects.
” Again, the resources are not much and you won’t give what you don’t have but we are trying to improve in our releases to see to the development of our dear state” the AG said.
On his part, Mr Polinus Felix Wahe, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance thanked the committee  for the support the ministry was enjoying from them and called for its sustenance.
The Permanent Secretary assured of transparency and accountability in government financial activities.
