The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced Inuwa Yahaya of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and incumbent governor of Gombe State winner of the state’s governorship election held on Saturday.
The INEC Returning Officer in the state, Prof. Maimuna Waziri, the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Gashua, Yobe declared the result in Gombe on Sunday,
Waziri said that Yahaya scored 342, 821 votes to defeat his closest rival of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jibrin Barde, who polled 233, 131 votes and was returned elected.
She further announced that Khamisu Mailantarki of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) polled 19861 votes while Keftin Amuga of Labour Party polled 1753.
Waziri said that there were 1,575,794 registered voters, 618231 accredited voters, 605355 valid votes, 11390 rejected votes and 616745 total votes cast.
NAN reports that the difference between APC and PDP is 109,690 votes.
NAN also reports that APC’s Yahaya won nine out of the 11 LGAs in the state which has 114 wards and 2988 polling units.
Yahaya won in the following LGAs.
In Shongom LGA APC polled 13,609 votes, PDP scored 13,412 votes, while in Nafada LGA, APC scored 15,025 votes, PDP 9378 votes.
In Balanga APC polled 25341 votes, PDP scored 20085 votes while in Dukku APC polled 35,207 votes, PDP scored 14, 181
In Kwami APC polled 33956, PDP 17454 while in Gombe LGA, APC scored 58, 645 as PDP’s 31605 votes.
In Funakaye APC polled 30371 votes, PDP 17332 votes; Akko APC 50919 while PDP polled 36759; in Yamaltu /Deba APC 43981 while PDP scored 28538 votes.
However, PDP’s Barde won in Billiri as APC scored 14,752 votes and PDP 23,066 while in Kaltungo APC polled 21015 votes, PDP scored 21321 votes.(NAN)
