A 40-year-old man, Monday Aloy, was on Monday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting his wife.
Aloy, whose address was not provided is facing a charge of assault.
The police prosecutor, Insp Sodiq Adeniyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan.15 at about 12:00 p.m at Olorunsogo Street in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant assaulted his wife, Elizabeth Aloy, by beating her and also using bench to hit her on the head which caused serious injury on her.
Adeniyi said the offence contravened Section 351 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The trial Magistrate, Dolapo Babalogbon, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Babalogbon said the sureties must produce evidence of payment of three years tax clearance.
She adjourned the case until Feb.28 for hearing.
