Group under the aegis of Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) has slated 30 October to 1st November 2024 as date for its Annual National Conference (ANC) and Annual General Meeting (AGM) respectively, with the theme; ”Environmental Resource Management, Conservation and Protection in the Global emerging innovative technology for sustainable development”.
National President of the group, Dr Efegbidiki Okobia, who made this known in Abuja while briefing Journalists explained that this year’s meeting is the 33rd National Conference of the group which tag “EKO 2024” will take place in Victoria Island, Lagos State.
He said the Conference is to further examine global environmental challenges and mitigate actions to ensuring a sustainable environment and economic growth for Nigeria.
Dr Okobia noted that the conference will also discuss and proffer scientific and practical solutions to global, national, sub national and local environmental challenges.
He said that apart from the main theme of the conference there are other subs-themes that will be discussed to examine significant issues at the Technical Sessions with cut-crossing environmental sustainability challenges.
The President also disclosed that the conference aims at examining realities, alignments and contradictions in the global action to limit environmental degradation and its implications for sustainable development in the global South.
while naming the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sa nwo-Olu, as Chief Host of the meeting, he said the keynote speaker will be Former Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, Prof. Olarewaju Adigun Fagbohun, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation HE Senator George Akume, and the Honourable Minister of Environment Balarabe Lawal Abbas.
Others are Eleko of Eko, Rilwan Akiolu, EU Nigeria Representative, Louis Jacques Blondiau
Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun,
Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umar Bago, Governor of Delta State and Governor of Borno State Babagana Zulum, among others.
NES said ot is committed to advocacy and actions towards environmental protection, sustainable development, and promotion of environmental professionalism within Nigeria and in the global arena.
The Society which according to him is the biggest environmental society in Sub-Sahara Africa and recognized internationally with over 30 chapters in the 36 states of Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory.
