A group, “Do the Right Thing Campaign“ on Thursday in Abuja urged Nigerians to embrace attitudinal change that would make them to contribute more to nation building.
The group at a news conference unveiled a summit to that effect billed to hold on Nov. 9 in Abuja, with the theme “Being the Right Leader”.
The group’s Founder and Convener, Chief Mike Nwadiora, said this at a news conference to unveil its plan to organise a submit on “Being the Right leader on Nov. 9, 2023 in Abuja
He said the summit was part of the group’s efforts to reorient the citizenry on their roles in building a society of their dream by imbibing the right value system.
He said the summit would also seek to stimulate effective and transformative leadership among Nigerians.
Nwadiora said the summit would also focus on media in the management of information through fostering in-depth analysis and facilitating open dialogue that empowers audiences to make informed decisions.
According to him the high level of indiscipline the society from the family up to national level is a source of worry to the group
Nwadiora said the initiative was targeted at the youth, men and women, entrepreneurs, business professionals, legislators, policy makers, among others.
Others he listed as targeted audiences nclude traditional, religious and educational, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) civil servants and government agencies.
“In the (19) 60’s we were very conscious of our individual requirements to make things work. Without being self-righteous, we did well within the limitations of our colonial realities.
“Various governments took it upon themselves to do something about the degenerating discipline in the body politic at all levels.
“We are talking about phenomena like 10 per cent commission syndrome that came from the political and business class.
“This led to movements like the ” War Against Indiscipline,” up till the ” Do the Right Thing” campaign by the National Orientation Agency,” he said.
He said to build a Nigeria of our dream required ideal culture and values anchored on multi-track approach of doing the right thing for the stability of the country.
Nwadiora said that this approach could build a culture of lethargy and apathy to nationalism and good governance.
Nwadiora said that Nigeria is a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, multi-faith country which required that every citizen should respect others’ core values.
He said Do the Right Thing Campaign would be partner with public and private organisations in its programmes, adding that doing the right thing was a call to action for the good of the country. (NAN)
