Mr Bashir Jamoh, the Director- General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), says the federal Government has determined to further employ maritime activates to improve national development.
Jamoh made this known on Saturday in Abuja at a strategic retreat organized by the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy (FMMBE) with the theme “ Towards an Effective Federal Ministry and Blue Economy. “
According to him, the federal government is ready to explore benefits in maritime to create more job, to reduce poverty and to promote sustainable blue economy development in the country.
NIMASA boss said the ministry`s mandate anchored on the policy thrust through mechanisms that involved investment in international seaborne trade, development of inland waterways and enhance coastal shipping with revamp maritime logistics.
He said the mechanisms also included creating new job opportunities, reducing logistics costs, renewable energy, fisheries and aquaculture, increasing port capacity through construction of new seaports, Research and Development on marine biotechnology among others.
The actions Jamoh mentioned in a report he presented on short and medium terms strategic action for FMMBE comprising- adopting and obtaining approval for the organization structure and set up, re-organizing existing departments of the ministry to align with the new organization structure.
Others he said involving submitting a supplemental budget taking into consideration the wide ambit of a marine economy ministry and organize a retreat for staff of the ministry on the new organization structure among others.
Mr William Azuh, the Lead Consultant for the FMMBE Strategic Retreat, commended NIMASA boss for the effective and efficient delivery of the report on the actions plan.
According to Azuh, Jamoh is a good and knowledgeable Chief Executive Officer (CEO) that knows his job very well.
