A man, identified as Onipede Dare has reportedly stabbed his wife, referred to as Kumapayi Arinola to death in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital over alleged infidelity.
The police command in the State confirmed the incident, saying full scale investigation had begun.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the State, DSP Sunday Abutu, while confirming the incident to newsmen on Sunday, said they got the information through their children, and that the murder took place on Saturday.
According to reports, the incident occured at the at Christ Avenue, in Adebayo area of Ado-Ekiti.
A source in the area told newsmen that before the incident, the couple, had sent the older of their two children on an errand, and locked themselves in their apart before they started fighting on the issue.
According to the source, the man, said to be a law enforcement agent, and his deceased wife, who worked in a chemist shop, had in the process, allegedly stabbed each other with sharp objects.
It was however not immediately clear if it was knife or bottles that was used in the cross attacks.
“They locked themselves up inside their apartment with their younger child of about five years.
“The man confronted the deceased over allegations that she was cheating on him, and a fight ensued, leading him to stabbing his wife to death.
“At that moment, people had came to separate the fight, only to meet the door to their apartment locked. When they could not break the door open, some of the people around removed some of the building ceiling to gain entry into their apartment”.
Continuing, the source said”they met the deceased and her husband, injured all over their bodies.
” The woman looked unconscious and was immediately rushed to the hospital, but she gave up the ghost before they get to the hospital”.
The source added that it was at this stage that the matter was reported at the nearest police station in the area, after which the man was taken to an undisclosed hospital where he is receiving treatment and being closely monitored by the police.
