Mrs Oghogho Musa, President, Defence and Police Officers Wives Association (DEPOWA), on Monday, conducted medical outreach for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at IDPs Camp Durumi Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the outreach featured checking of blood pressure, blood sugar test, treatment of common ailments and distribution of mosquito nets as well as food items.
The Defence chief’s wife told the beneficiaries that the outreach was organised to celebrate her birthday as a sign of joy, gratitude, thanksgiving and praise to God.
She said that a team of medical personnel was on ground to carry out consultation and treatment of common ailments and antenatal services.
“We gather here not only to mark my special day but also to demonstrate our commitment to serving and supporting those in need.
“To the Internally Displaced Persons here today, I want to assure you that we see through your struggles, we hear your stories and we are dedicated to helping you in any little way we can.
“That is why we are here today to reach out to you and to contribute some consumables to assist you.
“Before my arrival this morning, consultation and treatment of common ailments has been on-going which include checking of blood pressure, glucometer test for blood sugar and Antenatal services.
“There is also the administration of haematinics to pregnant women and deworming of adults and children, dispensing of drugs to sick ones and donating other medications to the camp clinic.
“The items include antibiotics and malaria medications, intravenous fluids, gloves and so many items before us,’’ she said.
Musa said that each pregnant woman would get a delivery pack to ensure a safe and clean delivery of their babies.
She said the outreach also involved meeting the nutritional needs of the IDPs and donation of a large quantity of food items such as rice, garri, corn and fruits.
“I am donating 90 bags of rice, 10 bags of Garri, 10 bags of Guinea corn, 10 bags of corn, 10 bags of oranges, 10 bags of garden eggs and 300 mosquito nets.
“I am truly honoured and grateful to God Almighty for his mercies and protection over my life.
“ I have my share of ups and downs but with the amazing people in my life, every challenge seems easier, I am truly grateful for all the support,’’ she said.
The DEPOWA president thanked the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, for her motherly inspiration and continuous guidance as well as her husband, Gen. Christopher Musa, for being her pillar of strength and the driving force.
A beneficiary, who spoke on behalf of the IDPs, Mrs Liatu Ayuba, thanked the DEPOWA president for the gesture and support towards cushioning their plight as IDPs.
Ayuba said that the medical outreach and the food packs distributed to them would go a long way in supporting their families.
“She gave us health, she gave us food and she put a smile on our faces and on our children’s faces.
“We are so glad and we are so happy for her and for her birthday.
“We are saying that God will give her long life and prosperity. She will continue to live long because she did a lot for us.
Ayuba called on the government and other well-meaning Nigerians to come to their aid in addressing their plight as IDPs.
