The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has intercepted 56.39kg of cocaine at its Tincan Island Port Command valued at over N2.37 Billion, and 955kg of Colorado Indica valued at over N1.91Billion all with a street value of N4.279 Billion.
This is contained in a statement issued by its by National Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent of Customs, Abdullahi Maiwada on Friday.
According to the statement, the Comptroller General of NCS, Adewale Adeniyi was reported saying that five pistols,445 round of live ammunition and several empty pistol magazines were also seized.
The C-G lauded inter-agency synergy efforts between customs and other government agencies, particularly the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in facilitating the feat.
He stressed the crucial role of inter-agency synergy in the fight against illicit substances and achieving national security.
“Just as criminals find strength in collaboration, government agencies must equally appreciate the advantages of working collectively to fulfil their statutory responsibilities.
“ It is within this context that the ongoing collaborative efforts between the NCS and the NDLEA have consistently yielded positive results.
“This collaborative synergy exemplifies the effectiveness of pulling resources and intelligence, reinforcing the commitment of both agencies to safeguarding the nation’s borders and protecting its citizens from the threats posed by illegal substances, “ he said.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the NCS to prioritising strategic partnerships, aimed at enhancing its capacity to fulfil its core mandates.
He said, “In recognition of the threats and the collaborative nature of criminal activities, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has steadfastly prioritised strategic partnerships with stakeholders over the past seven months.”
“This deliberate focus aims to harness the specialised expertise of our partners in a manner that enhances our capability to fulfil our core mandates,“ he said.
