Mr Christopher Maikalangu, Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), on Thursday distributed various items to Persons Wth Disabilities (PWDs), and youths.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event also featured the distribution of learning materials to various primary schools in the area council.
Speaking at the event, Maikalangu said that the gesture was in line with his administration’s readiness to promote self-reliance and discourage laziness.
“I want to use this medium to encourage our youth to engage in meaningful ventures in order to earn legitimate wealth that will stand the test of time.
“It is better for us to work very hard, have a good name and earn respect instead of spending our time in wasteful ventures.
“As part of our strategy in this one year in office, the council is determined to encourage youths who are willing to put in extra effort into legitimate ventures,” he said.
He said that the items must be effectively utilised so that they would serve the purpose they are meant for.
Maikalangu said the urban renewal policy of the FCT had made it difficult for the area council to have recreational centres.
He, however, added that AMAC would continue to appeal to the FCTA to enable the area council have recreational centers for its teeming youths.
NAN reports that the items donated included 20 sewing machines, 12 wheel chairs, 30 crouches, 12 air pressure machines, 24 sets of jersey and 12 sets of training bip.
Others are 48 balls, 20 wheel barrows, 50 shovels, 50 rakes, 25 clippers, exercise books for primary schools and three table tennis boards for three town halls in AMAC.(NAN)
