A granite-laden truck on Sunday crushed a yet-to-be identified cart pusher to death at Dopumu area of Lagos State.
The spokesperson for Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Mr Adebayo Taofiq, while confirming the incident in a statement, said the truck driver was on top speed when it fell on its side.
Taofiq said the agency had recovered the lifeless body of the victim trapped under the fallen truck at Goye by UBA inward Dopemu area of Lagos.
He said that preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the truck lost control while overtaking another trailer before its the container fell off the road and trapped the victim.
The spokesperson said that the driver of the truck ran away, while LASTMA officials retrieved a photocopy of his driver’s licence at the accident scene.
Taofiq said that the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Response Unit (LRU) had evacuated the fallen truck off the road, while the corpse had been handed over to members of the Hausa community at Dopemu area.
He said that the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Bolaji Oreagba, commiserated with the family of deceased and urged truck drivers and other motorists to always adhere strictly to safety standards while driving on highways.
