The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, has inaugurated the Handing Over Notes, Collation and Transition Committee, in line with the Presidential Transition Council’s(PTC) directive.
The committee was inaugurated by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr.Nasir Sani Gwarzo, on Tuesday in Abuja.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Deputy Director of Information in the ministry, Mrs Rhoda Ishaku Iliya.
According to the statement, while the committee is chaired by the permanent secretary, the Director Planning Research and Statistics, Mr Peter Nwakpa, will serve as its secretary.
Sani-Gwarzo said that President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the establishment of a PTC, to facilitate and manage the 2023 transition programme.
“The President has also signed the Executive Order No. 14 of 2023 on the facilitation and management of the presidential transitions on Feb.9, and directed that the council to be inaugurated by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on Feb.14.
“A key feature of the Presidential Executive Order No. 14 of 2023 is the institutionalisation of a legal framework that would enable a seamless transition of power from one administration to another which is part of Buhari’s legacy.
“In view of the above, it has become necessary for the Ministry to set up a ministerial committee for the collation and development of the handing over notes of the entire humanitarian sector; and come up with a transition plan to enable the ministry interface with the presidential transition council which will be rather soon.
Therefore, it is important to note that time is of the essence here,” he said..
He explained that the committee was expected to ensure the collation and harmonisation of the handing over notes from all departments, agencies and programmes under the supervision of the, ministry in the approved template.
He emphasised that the committee had three weeks to complete the assignment and submit the first draft on Tuesday, March.28.
He gave assurance that all the necessary logistics would be provided to ensure that the notes were ready within the stipulated time frame ahead of the PTC’s visit to the ministry.
He stressed that all submission must be in both hard and soft copies to enable the secretariat collate, harmonise and produce the first draft for vetting.
He said all members should ensure that their submissions were in line with the approved template. (NAN)
