The Police Command in Delta has apprehended a suspected armed robber and recovered weapon from him in Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesman of the state command, DSP Bright Edafe disclosed this to newsmen on Monday in Warri.
Edafe who identified the 35-year-old suspect as Famous Olotu said that he was nabbed on Wednesday by the Police operatives attached to Oghara Police station.
He added that the police operatives were on a stop and search operation on the Ibori Road in Oghara when they intercepted the suspect.
“On Oct. 5, Police operatives attached to Oghara Police station led by the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) while on stop and search duty on Ibori Road, Oghara intercepted Olotu.
“The suspect was subjected to a search during which one locally made cut-to-size gun loaded with one live cartridge was recovered from him,” he said.
Edafe said that investigation on the matter was ongoing.
In a related development, Edafe said that the command had recovered a locally made cut-to-size double barrel gun and one locally made short gun from a suspect, who is currently at large.
“On Oct. 9, Operatives of the Command’s Eagle-Net Special Squad while on Aberdeen patrol in Warri, sighted a male passenger carrying a mini bag.
“On sighting the Police, the suspect alighted from a mini bus and fled with the bag. His action was suspicious hence the operative went after him.
“The suspect on noticing that the Policemen were closing up on him, abandoned the bag and escaped into a nearby river.
“Upon searching the bag, one locally made cut-to-size double barrel gun and one locally made short gun were recovered,” Edafe said.
The command’s spokesman said that efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect.
