Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has called on Gov. Abdullahi Sule to approve the absorption of over 170 casual staff of Government Comprehensive Special School Lafia for improved standard of education and enhance productivity in the school.
Rt. Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala, the Chairman, House Committee on Education, Science and Technology made the call when he led other members of the committee on an oversight visit to the school today in Lafia.
Abel, who is the Deputy Majority Leader of the House said that the school is grossly under staff, hence the need of their call in that direction.
” We are here to assess facilities and see things for ourselves. we have decided to take a look at what is really happening in the school.
” We came, we saw and we discovered that only 48 staff are permanent and pensionable staff as over 170 staff are on casual basis.
” For the school to meet up with standard and the purpose of which it was established, we are calling on His Excellency, Engr. A A Sule to graciously approved the absorption of the casual staff” he said.
Hon. Abel expressed hope that the Governor as a listening leader would do the needful on the matter.
” His Excellency, Engr. A A Sule that we know is a listening Governor. He has passion for the education sector and also has passion for the development of the state” he added.
He commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for his developmental strides in the education and other sectors of the economy.
The chairman of the committee assured of their readiness to synergize with the state government for improved standard of education in the state.
Hon. Abel commended the Head of the School, Dr Andrew Yakubu for his good work in the school.
” We are so happy and pleased with the performance of the Head of the School and staff of the school.
” The Head of the School is doing excellently well, so I call on the staff of the school to emulate what the Head of the school is doing” he added.
Responding, Dr Andrew Yakubu, the Head of School, Government Comprehensive Special School, Lafia appreciated the committee for being up and doing in improving on the standard of education in the state.
” I am delighted and overwhelmed with the show of love and commitment by the Committee on Education as the visit will go a long way in addressing some of the challenges facing the school.
” We are really under staff, majority of our staff are casual staff, the ratio of the school need students per teacher should not be more than 4.
“But now you see one teacher is taking more than 20 to 30 students so the optimal goal may not be achieved” he added.
