The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, says the Nigerian Army and the Taraba Government have formed a solid and enduring partnership to decisively tackle terrorism and other security threats in the state.
Shaibu stated this on Tuesday in Abuja while receiving Gov. Agbu Kefas of Taraba, alongside some federal lawmakers, during a courtesy visit to the Army Headquarters.
This is contained in a statement by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, on Tuesday in Abuja.
The COAS reaffirmed the Nigerian army’s commitment to supporting civil authorities in maintaining peace and security, noting that Taraba State occupies a strategic position in the country’s security architecture.
He commended the Taraba State Government for its support to military operations, particularly the donation of land and provision of operational equipment, which he described as force multipliers that have enhanced operational effectiveness.
Shaibu stressed that lasting peace could only be achieved through strong civil–military cooperation and called for sustained collaboration between the army and the state government.
He specifically appealed for the provision of stable electricity to 20 Model Battalion and 23 Battalion, saying improved power supply would boost operational efficiency, troop welfare and overall readiness.
The COAS also urged residents of Taraba State to support security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence, describing community cooperation as critical to defeating terrorists and criminal elements.
In his remarks, Gov. Kefas congratulated Shaibu on his appointment as COAS and assured him of the state government’s continued support for the Nigerian Army.
The governor commended the professionalism and sacrifices of army personnel, noting that their operations had led to visible improvements in security across the state.
He also praised the existing inter-agency cooperation among security forces in Taraba and pledged continued support, including assistance with accommodation for troops deployed in the state. (NAN)
