A Nigerian short film, Tears for Enebi, by renowned storyteller, Godspower Oshodin, has won two major honours at the Independent Short Awards in Los Angeles.
The film clinched the awards for Best Women Short and Best Actress, further boosting its international profile.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by Mr Osaretin Oshodin, International Liaison Officer of Solution Media Studios.
According to him, the recognition reflects the unwavering dedication of the producer, Godspower Oshodin, an author, poet, journalist and filmmaker who developed the project over a 12-year period.
He said the film was co-produced by Seunmanuel Faleye, a director, actor and filmmaker, and directed by Peter Atigogo, Seunmanuel Faleye and Sunki, with Joshua Emmanuel as production coordinator.
Tears for Enebi features performances by Rahma Zakareeyah, who won Best Actress for her role, Seunmanuel Faleye, Aitiya Hensley, five-year-old Kika Oshodin, and a special appearance by Nollywood actress Foluke Daramola.
Oshodin said the awards underscore the film’s global resonance and its core message of confronting sexual violence and amplifying the voices of survivors with courage and hope.
He added that the film has so far won five international awards and has been selected for screening at 10 major film festivals scheduled for 2026.
The statement also quoted Godspower Oshodin as saying the story was conceived more than a decade ago to challenge rape, abuse and all forms of gender-based violence.
“Production was halted twice, but our resolve never wavered because we knew this story had to be told,” he said.
Reacting to her award, Rahmah Zakareeyah said portraying Enebi was both challenging and rewarding, noting that the role represented countless women whose voices often go unheard.
She said the honour belonged to survivors and to women and girls determined to share their truth, while thanking audiences for believing in the film’s message.
The film was produced in collaboration with Solution Media Studios, Mogson Production, M2net and Purplemat Entertainment, and features an original soundtrack by MarkOwi.
Tears for Enebi aims to inspire dialogue and action towards a safer and more compassionate society.
