The Minister of Power, Mr Adebayo Adelabu, has commended the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) for its role in safeguarding the country’s generation capacity.
Adelabu gave the commendation in Abuja on Wednesday at a gala night to mark the company’s 20th Anniversary.
According to him, NDPHC has played a practical role in expanding and safeguarding Nigeria’s generation capacity.
”Through the NIPP platform, the company has taken on plants and associated value chain infrastructure across regions of the country.
“It has helped to create one of the largest portfolios of government-backed power assets on the African continent.
”As we celebrate this evening, my message to the board, the management team and the staff members is that your hard work, your technical expertise over the years have made the difference.
”Your contributions are evident in the plants operating today and the lives benefiting from more stable electricity,” he said.
Adelabu said that in recent years, the company had continued to improve its asset recovery and stabilisation to ensure improved delivery and optimisation.
He said that it did that through the restoration of 345 Megawatts (MW) power turbines back on the grid.
According to him, the restoration was done with 120 MW from Omotosho NIPP, 112.5 MW from Benin NIPP, and 112.5 MW from Calabar NIPP.
”Equally important are NDPHC’s efforts to broaden its technical scope and alignment with the national agenda by implementing the Light Up Nigeria project.
”This is to boost internalisation and provide reliable electricity to industrial clusters nationwide.
”These achievements are part of the gains from the broader reforms, we are implementing under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, in line with the Renewed Hope agenda,” khe said.
The minister urged NDPHC9 to do more to improve its services.
”We need faster delivery, improved and reliable supply, deeper partnerships and solutions that balance affordability, reliability and environmental responsibility.
”NDPHC is well positioned to continue playing a pivotal role in the next phase of the sector’s evolution.
“The ministry remains committed to providing continued support for NDPHC’s role in delivering and optimising national power assets,” he said.
The Managing Director of NDPHC, Jennifer Adighije, said that the company was conceived 20 years ago as a strategic national response to the urgent need for expanded generation, transmission and distribution capacity.
According to her, the journey has not been easy but today NDPHC stands proud as one of the most impactful government-owned power infrastructure companies on the continent.
”Over the last two decades, NDPHC has delivered multiple gas-fired power plants across the country.
”it has strengthened transmission capacity through critical infrastructure, and supported distribution networks in underserved communities.
”It has also ensured thousands of skilled jobs, empowered local content and contributed significantly to Nigeria’s grid stability and economic growth,” she said.
Adighije said that these achievements were made possible by the dedication of NDPHC staff, strategic leadership of the company’s board, support of government and the trust of Nigerians.
”Under my leadership, we are leveraging on the Electricity Act to foster strategic collaboration with our partners who will deliver electricity via the West African Power Pool,” she saido.
She commended President Bola Tinubu and Adelabu for graciously approving and driving a power sector refinancing plan.
Awards were given to the former Vice-President, Namadi Sambo, two former Managing Directors of NDPHC, Mr James Olotu and Mr Chiedu Ugbo amongst others.
