The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, on Thursday inaugurated a newly constructed Soldiers’ Club at Doddan Barracks, Lagos, reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to improving the welfare and morale of troops.

This is contained in a statement by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, on Thursday in Abuja.

Shaibu said the modern facility, built for Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs), was part of efforts to strengthen camaraderie, teamwork and general wellbeing across formations and units.

“This club underscores our dedication to providing soldiers with conducive spaces to relax, interact and build lasting bonds. A motivated soldier is a more effective soldier,” he said.

Shaibu commended the 81 Division for what he described as a “timely and well-executed project” that aligns with his vision of a professional, resilient and welfare-driven Nigerian Army.

The facility was constructed by the Commander, 45 Division Engineers, Brig.-Gen. M.O. Momoh, under the supervision of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Maj.-Gen. Farouk Mijinyawa.

The Soldiers’ Club is expected to serve as a central hub for recreation and informal interaction among NCOs, aimed at boosting esprit de corps and cohesion within the rank and file. (NAN)
