The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, on Wednesday inaugurated key facilities at the Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja Cantonment in Ikeja, Lagos, to enhance troop welfare and operational efficiency.
This is contained in a statement by the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Appolonia Anele, on Wednesday in Abuja.
Anele said the projects include a remodeled basketball court sponsored by First Bank, and a refurbished Quarter Guard at the 9 Brigade Headquarters funded by Airpeace Airlines.

“Also inaugurated is the newly completed 9 Brigade Headquarters Complex, completed under the leadership of the immediate past Brigade Commander, Brig.-Gen. Mathew Oyekola.
“In his remarks at the ceremony, the COAS, Lt.-Gen. Shaibu said the facilities were more than buildings and courts but investments in the morale, health, and professionalism of the soldiers.
“He reiterated his commitment to providing an environment that fosters excellence, discipline, and wellbeing,” she said.
Anele said the COAS also planted a tree within the barracks, emphasising environmental sustainability alongside infrastructural development, as part of his visit.
According to her, the visit forms part of a two-day inspection tour of formations and units under the 81 Division Area of Responsibility.
“Corporate partnerships like these show the power of collaboration between the Nigerian Army and private sector in improving the lives of our personnel,” she added. (NAN)
