Dr Patrick Ezie, the Chief Executive Officer of Silver-Cross Hospital and Foundation has described the recent awards given to the hospital by Okapi Childhood Cancer Foundation as an act of God and service to humanity
The Chief Executive made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday.
He said that the best supporting organisation award that was bestowed on the hospital by Okapi Childhood Cancer Foundation was due to hard work and commitment to service to humanity.
Ezie said that Silver-Cross hospital had been supporting and partnering with Okapi Childhood Cancer Foundation for the past three, especially responding to its output of cancer treatment services on children.
Silver-Cross Hospital Chief Executive Officer said that Okapi Childhood Cancer Foundation is an organisation which had identified with so many children with cancer issue.
He said that the hospital comes in by given treatment free of charge to those children that had been identified with tremendous cancer issues.
“Also, Okapi Childhood Cancer Foundation also get treatment in teaching hospitals andother facilities that can provide such services.
“Many of these children are sick and that’s where Silver-Cross Hospital and Foundation also comes in. Sofor Okapi Childhood Cancer Foundation,we are still supportingand helping them to identifythe root cause of this cancer in children.
“Truly, if you look around with thechildren, teenagers,there’s all kinds of cancers that we have identifiedand we have partnered so many times with Okapi Childhood Cancer Foundation in this direction.
“So, I’m sure that we will start receiving care gift throughthe other partners. So, this year, we are happy that Okapi Childhood Cancer Foundation recognised our contributionand we are very happy to do more.
“Last month, Okapi had a roadwalk and medical outreach on cancer, we supported them in that area. Otherthan supporting the outreach to celebrate the 2025 International Cancer Day,we had another outreach in a school, Junior Secondary School Wuse 2..
“All the children in that school and their teachers were screenedto ensure that they are free of the symptoms,” Ezie said.
“The road walk was also to raise awareness among young peoplethat they can also be in contact cancer,” he said.
He said that Silver-Cross hospital had been providing Okapi Childhood Cancer Foundation with medical advice which he said was part of the reasons Okapi found the hospital worthy of the award.
“We provide expertevaluation, we havealso gone aheadto provide free breast cancer servicesfor some of the young girlswho are trying to have breast cancer, justto make sure that they don’t have cancers.
“Andif there are some of them in the past, that have developed this cancer,we will also contribute our own quota financially.
“We have also supported other Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) that are link with Okapi Childhood Cancer Foundation, we ensure that everyone get optimal support.
