The Abia Labour Party (LP) Caucus has urged the Deputy Speaker, Rep. Benjamin Kalu to shun divisive politics especially against the Abia governor and the federal government.
The Chairman Abia Labour Party (LP) Caucus, Rep. Ginger Onwusibe said this in a statement to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday.
Onwusibe who condemned the alleged arrogance and unguarded utterances of the Deputy Speaker, advised him to watch his utterances.
“We have observed with dismay a recent unfortunate political development in our dear state, Abia, occasioned by unguarded and unhealthy utterances of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“Kalu openly, boasted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would “capture Abia” in 2027, flaunting his “number six” position in the federal hierarchy as if political power were a personal trophy,” he said.
Onwusibe who described utterances as careless talk, said it is unintelligent and insensitive and unbecoming of a public officer who ought to embody humility and emotional intelligence.
He accused the Deputy Speaker of carrying on with arrogance and making provocative, sycophantic, and inflammatory statements both publicly and privately against the Abia governor.
According to Onwusibe, his conduct reveals a deliberate strategy, to incite the Federal Government and the ruling party at the centre against the Abia State Government.
He said that governor Otti has consistently shown respect for both the Age and the Exalted Office of Mr. President, maintaining a cordial and constructive relationship with him.
Onwusibe admonished the Deputy Speaker to accord due respect to the Governor, not only in recognition of his office but in Deference to his Age, and Igbo cultural values.
The Abia LP Caucus Chairman lauded Gov.Alex Otti’s giant strides in Abia having facilitated and executed numerous federal projects across Abia — including Port Harcourt Road.
He identified rehabilitation Ohafia-Arochukwu Road, Omenuko Bridge, and the 25 km Umuahia as tangible results, of leadership of hope to ordinary people.
He therefore urged Nigerians to disregard Kalu’s empty boasts and divisive rhetoric, saying his actions are driven by selfish ambition, not love for the people.
“We call on all Abians- young and old, market women and traders, professionals, party members.
“Elders and elites across party lines and political persuasions to stand united in support of the transformational work of Governor Alex Otti.”
He said: “Governor Otti enjoys a cordial relationship with Mr. President, and no amount of political scheming by Honorable Kalu can disrupt Abia’s steady progress.” (NAN)
