The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, says the establishment of the Armed Forces Radio has denied terrorists oxygen of disinformation and misinformation in the fight against terrorism.
Musa states this at the 10th Anniversary celebration of the radio station on Thursday in Abuja.
He said the station fosters community dialogue by addressing social issues, promoting understanding and building empathy.
He added that the station has been a critical instrument of the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s non-kinetic operations.
The CDS said the radio service established on May 22, 2015 was conceived by the former CDS, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, of blessed memory.
According to him, the military over the past decade witnessed the power of radio to transform lives, shape public opinion and inspire listeners.
“From a humble beginning to becoming a household name, this station has remained committed to delivering high-quality content,entertainment, education and information to our esteemed listeners.
“We have covered local and international news, promoted cultural heritage, given a platform for voices to be heard and most importantly, provided clarity on the activities of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
“In doing this, the station has satisfactorily denied oxygen to agents of disinformation and misinformation,” he said.
The defence chief added that the radio had over the last 10 years, worked hard to secure a sizeable listenership in the very competitive broadcast environment of the Federal Capital Territory.
According to him, feedback received from our devoted listeners has consistently pointed to this direction.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria Radio has also helped to positively influence local culture through music, indigenous narratives and community engagements.
“Similarly, the station fosters community dialogue by addressing social issues, promoting understanding and building empathy.
“Our commitment to quality broadcasting, community engagement and listener satisfaction remains unwavering.
“We will continue to inspire our troops to think of the nation first, just as our listeners will be encouraged to provide information on relevant developments within their localities, through appropriate channels,” he said.
Earlier, the Executive Director of the station, retired Col. Timothy Antigha, emphasised its long-standing mission of fostering unity between the Nigerian Armed Forces and the public.
Antigha said the station has for 10 years, proudly served as a bridge between the Armed Forces and the Nigerian people.
“As we look ahead, we remain committed to providing informative, balanced, and patriotic content that uplifts our listeners,” he stated.
In his remarks, the Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Tukur Gusau, expressed gratitude to all who had supported the station over the years, assuring that the station would continue to serve as a unifying voice for the nation.
According to him, AFR is more than just a broadcasting outlet. It is a bridge between uniform and civilian, between government and community, between security institutions and the citizens they serve. (NAN)
