Kwara State made history on two fronts this week, marking a proud moment for sports and education in the state. For the first time since its creation in 1967, Kwara United Football Club secured the prestigious 2025 President Federation Cup, defeating Abakaliki FC in a thrilling final. In the same week, students representing the state clinched the national title in the Senior President School Debate Competition — the first time Kwara has achieved this feat.
Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who joined the team in celebration, described the football victory as a “monumental achievement” that reflects the enduring spirit of the state’s youth.
“I’m overwhelmed with joy as I joined Harmony Boys of Kwara United this evening to bring home the 2025 President Federation Cup,” the governor said. “This is the first time any team from our state has ever won this prestigious trophy.”
He extended appreciation to the players, coaching crew, management team, the Kwara State Sports Commission, and supporters’ club, while also acknowledging the support of Kwarans at home and abroad.
“This win again testifies to the power of team spirit, discipline, determination, and grit,” he added.
Beyond football, the Governor also celebrated the performance of Kwara’s representatives at the Senior President School Debate Competition, who emerged as national champions for the first time. This builds on Kwara’s previous dominance in the junior category, where pupils from the state have held the title for three consecutive years under the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
“These victories are not accidental,” Governor Abdulrazaq stated. “They are the deserving fruits of hard work and strategic investments in youth development, sports, education, and other key sectors.”
He praised the students, their coaches, and education officials for sustaining the state’s winning streak, saying their efforts prove that Kwara’s rising profile is based on consistent planning and commitment.
Governor Abdulrazaq concluded by congratulating all Kwarans and reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to placing the state in the national and global spotlight through strategic progress in key sectors.
