Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has been hailed as a symbol of transformative leadership in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, earning recognition for key reforms and innovations across the ministry, particularly in the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
During a gathering hosted by Boardroom Publications Ltd., the minister was conferred with the “Minister of the Year” award by the Presidential Call for Advanced Nigeria (PCAN) project. The award, presented by the convener, Prince Jeffrey Adaralegbe, recognises Tunji-Ojo’s achievements and his contribution to the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“You have become a beacon of hope in public service delivery,” Adaralegbe said. “The miracle at the Nigeria Immigration Service where you cleared a backlog of over 204,000 passports in just three weeks is proof of your commitment to Nigerians’ welfare. This wasn’t just an administrative breakthrough—it was a national rescue.”
Under Tunji-Ojo’s leadership, passport processing timelines have been significantly reduced to two weeks, with the introduction of home and office delivery, easing the burden on citizens and cutting bureaucratic delays.
The minister was also praised for his compassionate approach to criminal justice reforms. Through the payment of fines and compensations totaling N585 million, over 4,000 inmates were freed from overcrowded correctional centres across the country.
“We are seeing proactive governance,” Adaralegbe added. “You have prioritised the welfare of paramilitary personnel and opened engagement with both local and international agencies to improve internal security. These are the kind of strides Nigerians want to see.”
As part of the honour, Boardroom Publications proposed several initiatives under the PCAN campaign to further advance national patriotism and civic responsibility. These include the PCAN Civil Servants Campaign, Patriotic Multimedia Drive, and Corps Members Patriotic Retreat, among others. The convener appealed to the Minister to support and sponsor these programmes aimed at reshaping public perception and promoting responsible citizenship.
“PCAN is a movement for the psychological liberation of Nigerians,” Adaralegbe noted. “It is time we step into the full light of the Renewed Hope Agenda and help citizens see the abundance of now, and the possibilities ahead.”
In recognition of these achievements and his alignment with the vision of a progressive Nigeria, Tunji-Ojo has been nominated for the PCAN Ambassadorial Award.

The event brought together directors, government officials, and stakeholders who gave the Minister a standing ovation in appreciation of his dedication to national development.
