A truck loaded with cartons of detergent was gutted by fire on Monday, May 5, 2025, along the Ogbomoso Expressway in Kwara State after one of its tires burst and ignited a blaze.
The Kwara State Fire Service confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Head of Media and Publicity, PFO Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, and shared with journalists in Ilorin.
According to the statement, the fire broke out at Lasoju around 1:25 p.m. The truck, with registration number ALK 625 XA, was completely engulfed in flames before firefighters arrived and brought the situation under control. Although part of the goods was destroyed, the fire service managed to salvage some of the detergent products.
No lives were lost, and no injuries were reported.
Preliminary investigation by the fire service revealed that the incident was triggered by heat from the friction between the burst tire and the road surface, which led to the ignition of the fire that spread quickly to the cartons of detergent.
- Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, advised motorists to be more cautious when transporting flammable or heat-sensitive items to avoid such disasters.
