A 13-year-old Chimeremma Nwabueze has emerged the overall best student of the Junior Secondary School, Jabi 1.
The outgoing Principal of the school, Mr Sikiru Akeem commended the outstanding performance of the student at the graduation ceremony of the 2022/2023 academic session of the school in Abuja on Monday.
Akeem, who said that the school graduated 440 students, charged the students on improved morals as they move to the senior secondary class.
”Our JSS 3 students are graduating today and we are having prize giving to recognise their efforts before they move to the next class.
”440 students will be moving to the senior secondary school. We have observed that the general performance of students has been 100 per cent in the past three years that have been here and we hope they continue in the tempo.
”My advice to the students is to improve on their moral and academics as they also curtail their excesses during the holiday. I also urge them to choose the right career when they get to the senior class,” he said.
The newly posted principal of the school, Dr Grace Onyeanusi, promised to bridge the lapses that may exist in the school after assumption of office.
”I am an observer for today and from the testimonies people have said, I observed that the students are not too bad and to a reasonable extent the students and teachers are committed.
”So, I am impressed with what they have done today. I will look at the strength and weaknesses and know where to start but my main focus is to ensure I bridge the lapses to ensure students are discipline and are focused on their academics,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Vice President, Joe Aisien Oyebor Foundation, Mrs Bridget Suleiman said there was need for stakeholders to support the education of children to bring the number of out-of-school children as minimal.
Suleiman, who is also the Special Adviser on Social Investment Programme to the Kaduna State Governor, said that more support from stakeholders would enhance the quality of education.
” We are here to support children’s education especially girl child education and we are supporting them with bags and educational materials.
”If we have more foundations and parents supporting schools in general and also government increasing budget and support for students from a less privileged background, we will achieve success in reducing the out-of-school children number,” she said.
Nwabueze, who spoke in an interview, said he got the inspiration to put in his best from the previous graduation ceremony.
He said his plan was to become a computer programmer and contribute his quota in the advancement of the country.
”I got my inspiration from our last graduation and determined that if the best graduating student at the last ceremony could get it , I can also get it
”So, what I did was to plan to do my best and get to that level he attained and even surpass him ad today, it is an history,” he said.
He advised other students to put their best in whatever they do.
Hafsat Harisu, 14 came second while Khadijat Ahmad, 16 came third best.
