A Worker were trapped after a three-storey building under construction collapsed on them, in Abakaliki the state capital.

Reacting to the incident, Mr Sunday Inyima, Commissioner for Capital City and Urban Development, who were at scene of the incident, told journalists that one of the workers had been rescued while efforts are made to rescue the remaining victim.

Inyima blamed the Lawmaker, Mr Sunday Inyima, Commissioner for Capital City and Urban Development, who member representing Afikpo North East in the state House of Assembly for faulting directive of the ministry to avoid erecting structure at the said area.

The Commissioner for Works, Engr Lebechi Mbam called on developers to follow the due process of getting approval from relevant authorities to avoid reoccurrance of the menace.

Mr Eni Enyinnaya, State Chairman, Nigeria Society of Engineers, described the incident as an embarrassment to the state.

Enyinnaya who is also the Chairman, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, warned public against use of substandard products and quack engineers
